No you don't get unlimited mines. But they must of been up late night where the servers were not as busy and had a friend to help him. If you are in the same squad, you can just commit suicide and spawn on each other. That's what most likely they did.

Edit: omg, I can't stop watching that. That was sooooo sick. Watch it in 480p and full screen.
