This quote pretty much explains my beliefs

"Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man…living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer and burn and scream until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you and he needs money." --George Carlin

Not trying to offend people but it is gonna happen, sorry

I don't see the point in believing in a make believe person. How the hell am I supposed to believe that there is someone who created everything. I don't know why people think that when they die they are going to go to heaven or hell depending on how they acted "down here" When I die i know exactly what is going to happen to me, I am going to be buried and over time I am going to decompose, eventually my coffin will decompose and I will become fertilizer for the soil above my grave. That is it, nothing else. The main reason why I can't believe in God is because of all the wishy washyness of all the religions. One group of people believe one thing is right while another group believe that the first group is wrong and then a third group comes in and says they are both wrong, it is an endless cycle of a fight over who has the best imaginary friend.

Lawl. 'An endless cycle of a fight over who has the best imaginary friend.' That made me giggle pretty bad. Excellent choice of words.

The first quote is completely correct, but the word Religion should be switched with Christianity. Wicca does not believe in a hell, and technically neither a heaven, and it's a religion. Pretty good quote too. George Carlin is a good comedian.

Let us rekindle this thread, now that it has had sometime to cool off and we can jump back on topic.

What are your thoughts on Polytheism? The belief in more than just one God or Goddess.

Religion can be used as a good thing in some cases, for a more majority it can lead to negative ideas.

Examples:
I was engaged to a girl for over a year, the wedding date in less than 7 months. Excited as a lark I was. My fiance had never spoken of religion before and it was no problem in our relationship because she had her beliefs and I had mine. We were the happiest people I have ever seen and there are witnesses on this forum. Well, with half a year to the wedding, my fiance got pressured into some religous stuff FROM PEOPLE AT HER WORK. They horded her, pushed her into their beliefs and literally told her that their beliefs had to be followed at work. My fiance soon became brain washed from these people and unfortunately it really began to corrupt her and our relationship. So much that one day, she told me the demons in her head were hurting her and telling her to leave me. So she asked me what I believe in, and how I believe. I explained it to her ( meh for reasons for this post, lets just say im really laid back on religion ). She proceeded to tell me the Catholic faith and our beliefs were wrong. She told me to become a straight christian with no catholic morals or else we were breaking up. I explained to her that i really diddnt see that as fair. So she dumped me. I had to change my religion to get her back. But it wasnt good enough. The more taste of religion she got, the more she changed and became hateful towards me. So in a last ditch effort i tried to pull her aside and say that i am perfectly fine with her believing in whatever she wanted and that as long as she kept it to herself that we can be happier than we were before. She told me that it wasnt possible. Sadly, I have seen this happen to many people.
From my experience with this, I have come to the conclusion of 3 things in religion.

1. Religion can only be good if it discovered on ones own for their own desire. Another person or group of people can not have influence on ones perceptions of religion at all. If this happens, the views are tainted and they are not ones own. A person becomes like a goat following the herd if someone else influences them and nothing will ever allow that person to see the wrongs of what they are believing.

2.A person must find and establish their own beliefs. Each must look out and see what they are ok with believing and what they find unnecessary in religion and believing. Sure. The bible is good to read and get ideas from, but the thing is, no one knows whats real and what is revised in the bible over the years. I specifically know one quote from the bible that turned me to seek out my own beliefs and that quote simply states " Pay taxes to your government". Everyone needs to find the set of ideas they find they are ok with and form them to their own, then never let anything change those.

3. This is the most important one of all. Religion must be taken in moderation. Anything more turns people to corruption of the mind. If not taken in moderation, people turn to god for everything, and find ways to force it on other people. Going to church once a week is ok. But those who go 3 times a week, twice each of those days becomes an Extremist. And thats when everything goes wrong. People start to live in a "fantasy" world that believes god will take care and manage everything. They start to believe god does everything and that nothing in this world just tends to happen...which is a realistic way to look. When people get to involved they force it on other people to turn them into them. Anything but the views they have are wrong. This leads to negative personality traits.

I am not trying to denounce religion, but im saying there are ways to have religion used for good and keeping it from changing peoples lives in a way that is unnecessary.

Even if this is the internet, it takes gonads to tell one's romance-break story for everyone to hear.

That is especially true with my studies, too. I don't believe I would have even the slightest satisfaction with Witchcraft if I hadn't studied it for my own personal betterment(and every religion, or at least every true religion, is set up to help a person grow into a better person. It took me awhile before I could break my parent's shell and get them to see that the big C wasn't the only thing that can bring happiness, or at least to me.

The Bible is funny when it comes to morality and wisdom, but you're right; a person must interpret everything for themselves.

Btw, that verse you're thinking about is Luke 20:25.

King James Bible
And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.

Everything must be taken in moderation. Goodness must be taken in moderation or the one that is too good will see all those that aren't good as a abhorrence to their goodness. That's just an instance of what might happen. Hitler believed it, didn't he?

Whether it is used for good or bad, it keeps us balanced... for now.

Great quote from Marx, but lets not forget he was also the main thinker for the idea of Marxism, which is also known as radicalism and has been proven time and time again throughout history to not work. So if his great work failed and showed it not only couldn't work, but it ended up killing the very people his idea sought out to help, how can we look into his quotes with any legitimacy?

His ideas have never been accomplished to the T. If it ever gets done perfectly it would work, however people in general suck and are dumb so it won't ever work.

Thomas Jefferson raped his slaves. Lets not listen to him either.

Marxism is actually funny to look at if you think in a Hegelian manner.

'A lot' would be nice to know, but in comparison with what I've briefly read excerpts on, I know very little.

The funny part about me is that I read political philosophy so that I can be more in touch with religious philosophy, or at least more able to take on Christian philosophy.

I'll give you a brief background about me so you know why I don't play Halo much anymore(skip down to the last sentence if you don't really care that much.) I moved to Wisconsin a year ago and there is where my 360 is, which is probably getting nubsalted by my little brother. In the beginning of the summer, I came back to Montana, where I had grown up most my life, so that I could go to a Christian camp(pretty fun place.) I intended to go back to Wisconsin, but since the church I grew up in had a school here, I was given permission to stay and do school. Right now, my pink controller is on its way, but the only place within 30 miles that I can use it is at my friend Stick's house.

I know you didn't needed to know everything in there, but I felt like writing for the sake of writing.
